Sites like these can give you the ability to efficiently solicit bids for your project, according to Nate Chai, Thumbtack’s Senior Director of Pro Engagement

Keywords: finance

“You can see reviews, see backgrounds, all within a couple of clicks,” Chai said. “I think it’s so much easier than going down a list one by one and repeating your project over and over again to different people.”

If you’ve been following along on my blog, you know that Nick and I purchased our first home just over one month ago! I pinch myself every day to ensure I’m not dreaming and that this milestone did in fact happen in our lives. As odd as it sounds, there’s something calming and comforting about being a homeowner, even amidst the stress of home projects and unforeseen problems. Goodbye are the days of writing rent checks and worrying about nailing holes in the walls or our pup damaging something in our temporary space. Now these walls and floors are truly ours to decorate and destroy as we please (just kidding on the destroy part! ha)

Since signing our lives away on August 29, we’ve been hard at work transforming this house into our perfect home thanks to a little bit of paint, a lot of sweat and tears and even…

Home renovations are not for everyone.  I personally, love hunting down tile, selecting vanity pulls, and deciding between brushed nickel and oiled rubbed bronze faucet finishes.  This would be some people’s nightmare.  I am also ok with having my life temporarily disrupted for over a month when having a bathroom gutted.  Are you?

Think about this when searching for a home.  You might be better off buying a home that is newer or that has already had updates made to it.  You will pay more, but that might be the right choice for you.

We bought a 1960’s split level in a great Raleigh location that we’re slowing bringing up to date. This means we live with rooms that are a bit of a time warp for years at a time.  If you are up for buying a home needing updates, do you have the money to renovate all at…

Build for a Century

In the United States alone, there are buildings that have stood the test of time for hundreds of years!

There are buildings in New Mexico dating back to 1000 AD-1450 AD, but they’re made from adobe (Earth mixed with water and straw). But I’m not speaking to building materials of stone, adobe or similar.

There are wooden homes in American from the 1600s that are still intact and functional buildings to this day!

The oldest wooden home, is the Fairbanks House in Dedham, Massachusetts, which was built around 1637 and housed 8 generations of the Fairbanks family before being sold and repurposed as a museum!

How could a home made of such a soft material (considering the alternative building materials of the time) last almost 400 years now?

Johnathan Fairbanks hired a master carpenter to build the home for him; he did not set to erect such a home without…

Home Renovation

rollinwithmyhomes's avatarRollin' With My Homes..

Not sure how we managed this one, but this morning we signed off on the completion of our renovation loan! There are a million little things to get done and everyone that has ever built a home says not to move in before everything is perfect…but those people arent in their third trimester and living in an RV. 🤷🏼‍♀️ And as you can see by the latest blog posts, we kinda jumped the gun there. Oh well!

❤️It has been exactlyone year to the day since we went on our “first date” with this gem of a house, so to close on our loan today was a little surreal. It has exactly one year since we started discussing this crazy idea. Exactly one year since Philip made his dream a part of my reality.

Today as we celebrate closing deals in front of a warm and cozy fireplace with…

How to Find the Right Flooring for Your Home

Homeowners should never randomly choose new flooring for their home unless they want to deal with undesirable consequences. The flooring of a home protects the foundation in the house, which is why factors like durability and moisture should be considered in addition to the costs and attractiveness of the floor material. When choosing a new floor, homeowners need to keep their home’s best interest in mind. When you do need to replace it in your home, keep the following questions in mind.

Roof Repair

Josef Havelka's avatarMaking It Up As I Go

We had a fairly substantial rainfall the other day. At which point my wife noticed that the door frame to one of our bedrooms was leaking. Ya. The door frame. I knew immediately what it was from.

Two weeks ago, we had a tree fall on our roof during a Wind Storm. I had only gone out on the roof that day to quickly assess the damage and clear off the broke logs. At the time I didn’t see any damage near where the large logs lay. So I planned on going back up on another day to clear off the roof and check some more.

I forgot to go back up. Because Christmas got in the way.

Part of a branch had punctured through. When I finally pulled out the remnants, it was in the shape of a thick blade about two inches long. My guess is that…
